Moss roses are part of the Old Garden Roses general umbrella. They fall into the European side of the Old Garden Roses versus the China side. The original moss roses were a mutation from the centifolia and damask roses that caused a mossy growth on the buds and pedicels. Often the moss has a distinct scent to it.
I am not sure where I came across this moss, I don't know the name. The more I come across this picture the more I grow to like the look. If more mosses were like this, I might be more tempted to seek them out.
