Let's talk roses
I don't just want to ramble on about the roses that I grow, or just how to grow roses. While I am able to that may make for a boring read after a while. Please feel free to post any questions or even ideas of what you want to read about regarding roses in the comments section. I would love for you, the readers, to feel like this is interactive.

I know lots of roses are named after people. Is there a Lindsay rose?

ReplyDeleteI was told that roses don't take alot to maintain them and are fairly easy. Then why are there so many fertilizers and plant food & care products specifically for Roses?
ReplyDeleteGreat question. It boils down to a couple of reasons. People wanting to win rose shows. The criteria to win is near perfection. Another point is that the chemical companies use a lot of dollars to market their products.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a tradition for the experts to teach people to grow "prize winning" roses for so long. To win prizes the judges want perfect roses. No bug eaten leaves or petals, so people came up with chemicals to kill the bugs. No diseased leaves or stems, so people came up with chemicals to suppress disease. Then the experts, both rosarians and horticulturists, push the chemicals.
Now I am not saying all chemicals should be done away with. Just they are not a necessity to grow roses. Roses have grown without chemicals for far longer than with chemicals.
