Roses in the Nan Elliot Memorial Rose Garden

A small rose garden located in a park in Alton, Illinois. I think it is worth the trip. And it is a nice park as well. You can see some of the roses here:

Roses in the Missouri Botanical Gardens

The Missouri Botanical Gardens has two rose gardens. One of the rose gardens is formal, bedding style roses and the other is informal and has David Austin roses along with species, and other roses. Here is a few of the roses in the informal rose garden. You can see the video of the roses here:

Spotlight on Evelyn (Spotlight on Roses series #9)

My thoughts on Evelyn, a David Austin rose. It is in the apricot color spectrum, but I find it less apricot than Abraham Darby. Evelyn is a pretty popular rose, and I have only had mine since September. You can see the video of Evelyn here:

This may be a subject for a video in the future

The identities of the roses in yesterday's post are....

I hope that you had fun trying to identify the pictures. Also with any luck I was able to show why it is important to show more than just the flowers when trying to identify roses.

Some other things that were mentioned that are useful to use as identifiers include: Where is the plant? This can refer to where in the garden the plant is (sun/shade exposure), also what climate is the rose growing in?; how big is the plant?; where did the plant come from?; is the flower fragrant? (in at least one case the foliage is actually fragrant, which can be used as an identifier as well); picture of the backside of the flowers, plus pictures of the sepals (the bud covering); and how old are the plant?

 Now to the identities:

 Rose #1: Bliss Parfuma

Rose #2: Evelyn

Rose #3: Abraham Darby

Thank you to those who participated!

Only a flower picture to ID with? It is hard to do

I see often people posting pictures of just the flower and asking for an identification for the rose. That is really difficult to do sometimes. Sometimes the rose is unique enough to be able to identify with just the flower. It seems like the more modern the rose the more similar the flowers are to other roses.
Things that may help with identification can include pictures of the leaves, canes, thorns, the receptacle (the backside of the flower which could become the hip), also if it is a once blooming rose, possibly the age of the plant. Even with this additional information, it may still be hard to get an identification.
In hopes to illustrate my point, I'm going to post pictures of three different roses below and would like to have you comment on what the identities are. I will post the identities of the roses after this post has been up for roughly 24 hours.
